Composition Collection
This is a good composition. It has variety, due to the different colors of the rainbow. It shows dominance, in the form of a focal point. Your eye is drawn to the rainbow. It has linear movement.
This is a good composition. It has a lot of variety. Most of the picture contains straight lines (bricks, cement, and power lines) but the corners contain leaves that are completely different shapes. It also has a variety of color. The building is full of dark reds and cream, while the leaves are dark green and the power lines are black and white. Also, the picture has a variety of sizes. The bricks are small rectangles, while the cement is large rectangles that move off the page (also has movement!). The picture also has a variety of lines. The power cords are not all the same. Some are straight and plain and some have a different pattern. While the picture has variety, it also has repetition. The bricks are all the same size and repeat up, down, and across the page. The power lines that are white have a repeating pattern across the page.
This is a bad composition because it is right in the middle of the page. It seems as if the plant is in jail.
This picture is a good composition. It has dominance. The door takes up the entire page. The picture has symmetrical balance. If you were to cut this door in half it would be the same on both sides. The picture also has variety. It has different shapes throughout the page. It also has repetition of shapes: rectangles, circles, etc. There is also repetition of lines. The lines on the right fo straight up and down across.
